The increase is is partly attributable to higher prices for medical services and medicine.

Vietnam’s consumer price index (CPI) rose 3.37 per cent year-on-year in January, the General Statistics Office (GSO) has announced.

The figure also represents an increase of 0.31 per cent against December.

It was partly attributed to rising prices for medical services and medicine, electricity, and rice exports.

Nine of the eleven key groups of goods and services recorded price hikes. The highest was in the price of medicine and healthcare services, at 1.02 per cent, contributing 0.05 percentage points to the overall CPI increase.

It was followed by housing and construction materials at 0.56 per cent, transportation services at 0.41 per cent, and the group of beverages and tobacco at 0.38 per cent.

The GSO also revealed that core inflation in January rose 0.21 per cent compared to December 2023 and 2.72 per cent year-on-year.
