Logistics plays a crucial role not only in transporting goods efficiently and safely but also in ensuring the seamless connection between the components of the export process.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Duc, Vice President of Vietnam Maritime University, made the statement at the 4th Vietnam National Scientific Conference on Logistics and Supply Chain Management (CLSCM 2024), held recently.

With the theme “Economic development and investment attraction with smart, sustainable supply chains,” the conference brought together experts, academics, and researchers to discuss pressing issues in the industry, including: digital transformation and technology integration in logistics and supply chain management; sustainable and smart supply chains with business competitive advantages; logistics workforce development and enhancing international integration capabilities for Vietnamese businesses; and for green logistics services.

Mr. Duc stated that over the past 20 years, Vietnam has become one of the manufacturing centers in Asia and the world thanks to its stable growth rate.

“Along with continuous development in all sectors of the economy and the integration process, Vietnam’s logistics sector is rapidly specializing and becoming a vital service industry,” he emphasized.

“The economy can only develop synchronously and smoothly if the logistics chain operates continuously. Therefore, logistics becomes a driving force for the flow of economic transactions as well as a vital activity for most sectors of goods and services production.”

Sharing the same view, Mr. Le Quang Trung, Vice President of Vietnam Maritime Corporation (VIMC), argued that logistics is  infrastructure of infrastructure, the foundation for socio-economic development.

According to Mr. Trung, the global geopolitical situation is becoming increasingly complex, and trends to shift and reshape supply chains are becoming more evident.

Among them, alliances and connections have emerged to leverage economies of scale, he said. Notably, businesses are leveraging technology and automation to the maximum, all aiming for green supply chains or green logistics operations.

“For Vietnam, the trend of green supply chains and green logistics is no longer a need but a mandatory task,” he emphasized.

“To achieve this mission, besides building a clear roadmap, Vietnam needs a comprehensive, coordinated strategy and the consensus and effort of the entire society. Although there are certain difficulties in terms of finance and human resources, if there is a collective effort, completing the task is not impossible.”
